Bio

Introduction:  My name is Christy Scarborough and I am starting my 30th year in public education.  I taught Pre-K for one year at David Perdue Elementary School.  I also taught Kindergarten for 18 years both at David Perdue Elementary and Lake Joy Primary.  My other experience is in Special Education and I taught for 4 years in both Houston County and Pulaski County.  I currently teach 2nd grade at Lake Joy Primary and this is my 7th year. I have 3 children, Bailey age 26, Cole age 23, and Callie age 19. All three of my kids are products of the Houston County school system.  We live in Houston County as well.  I also have two precious grandbabies named Emory and Lewis.

College/Universities and Degrees:  I earned my Bachelors Degree in 1994 with dual certifications in Special Education from Georgia Southwestern University in Americus Georgia. I also attended Georgia College and State University where I earned my Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education in 1999. Then in 2003, I completed my Specialist Degree in Early Childhood Education from Troy State University.

My Philosophy: My teaching philosophy is very simple. In my classroom , I first build a relationship with each child and show them love and compassion.  All children naturally want to learn, but learning does not look the same for everyone nor does it come at the same pace.  Teaching allows me to open up new worlds for my students and to watch them grow as learners. We cannot do what we have always done, but we can make changes, try new things, and promote learning for everyone.
